Camille Wagoner (My Mint-Tea) & Me
The first time I heard this song by Alison Krauss I immediately fell in love with both the words and the melody. On the day I went in to record it, my dear friend Camille, whom I had been asked to mentor that year through her high school mentoring program, was with me. Camille, after hearing the song only a few times in the studio, surprised us all by adding her own beautiful harmony to the background.
Martha Marie: Pretty in Pink
One year, while preparing a Martha Marie show to be performed at a retreat in Glorieta, NM, I reflected on how Martha’s character appeared so at home anywhere, and how it seemed she’d been everywhere. In that moment, the old Hank Snow song "I’ve Been Everywhere" came to mind, and in no time I had the phone book down, searching the yellow pages for all the churches I thought she surely would have visited. Listen closely for the name "No Hope" that I threw in just for fun. (No, you’re not likely to find that church listed in your yellow pages!)
Best friend, Kelli Bullard & Me
While I continue to enjoy writing parody songs to perform both as Martha, and as Me, it’s this one, taken from Frank Sinatra’s popular “My Way,” that remains one of my all-time favorites. It’s dedicated to women everywhere who, like Kelli and me, juggle multiple factors in order to attend a women’s conference, all the while only to hope and pray that dad and kids will be doing things “Our Way” until we’re safely back home.
A short collection of “Martha Marie Sightings” set to her own Martha!Martha!Martha! theme music.
Invited to perform at a Christmas Banquet that Jimmy & Karen Evans, Hosts of F&M Today, were to attend, I secretly discussed a fun idea with the production crew to create a “mock” interview to be shown at the event. After giving the idea a thumbs-up, film editor Jonne Groomer went on to make it one of my most treasured clips.
One of the classic things about Martha Marie is how she continues to make a habit of popping up in the least likely places. Here she makes a surprise appearance at a Blessed Marriage Seminar where she proceeds to firmly give the audience a piece of her mind on marriage.
Recorded in the early stages of my performing Martha Marie, this interview took place when the comedy side was taking off, but before I began to incorporate more inspirational speaking and singing into my work.
Joining me in a comedy show hosted by the Christian Meetings and Conventions Association, was my good friend and gifted illusionist, Lyndy Phillips, as seen with me here on a Mobile Bay television morning show.
